How Dotemu Used Cloud Streaming to Run a Secure Remote Playtest

Why Dotemu Chose Cloud Streaming for Secure Playtesting

When Dotemu approached Antidote to test an unannounced title, their goals were clear:

Validate the game’s appeal with a U.S. audience, but without compromising security.

The game was in mid-alpha and the team had just enough content to expose a few early levels. But they couldn’t afford any leaks. With a strong reputation and several high-profile licenses under their belt, confidentiality was non-negotiable:

“It was the right time as we got enough content to expose to a playerbase without specific supervision. What we wanted is to expose the game to an American playerbase, in order to confirm or deny any bias we had from a European point of view.

The biggest concerns we had (still have as long as the game is not announced) is about leaking, as said since it was not announced and as Dotemu we work on many important licences, confidentiality is key.”

So to help them with this dilemma, they turned to the Antidote platform.

Dotemu tested the game with 20 U.S. based players, asking them to play for 3 hours and share feedback via surveys. To better understand player behavior, the studio also collected audio and gameplay recordings to see exactly how players interacted with the game.

To minimize risk, the studio activated several layers of protection:

  • Player confidentiality protocols, including NDAs and ID verification
  • Our SDK for watermarking and controlled game launches, ensuring every session was traceable and protected
  • And most critically, Antidote’s cloud streaming feature, allowing players to access the build without ever downloading it

Instead of sending local builds to players, Dotemu streamed the game directly to participants from our platform through the Antidote app. This meant testers could play from home, with the highest fidelity and lowest latency, but never actually had access to the game files.

Cloud streaming is perfect for situations like this:

  • When the build is unfinished or highly confidential
  • When you want full control over what’s seen, played or captured
  • When you want to reach players in different regions without worrying about their hardware setup

It removes the risks tied to local installs. No copying files, no peeking into folders, no risk of someone uploading your build where it shouldn’t be.

Here’s how someone from the Dotemu team described it:

“Cloud streaming allowed us to expose the game to players far away from our reach in a ‘hands off’ situation, which limits who has access to the data.”

In the end, Dotemu ran a fast and secure playtest without ever handing over a single build file.
