Saudi Arabia’s mobile gaming market is widely recognized for high spending and massive download volumes. Beneath those surface-level numbers sits a structural trend, where cultural relevance directly impacts chart performance.
We analyzed four years of market data covering 16 quarterly snapshots between July 2022 and April 2026, revealing a clear split between global titles and Arabic-first releases.
Here are key stats and findings from the report:
Localization Drives Massive Visibility on iOS
Language and local origin directly affect visibility, but that impact is uneven across operating systems.
Localized games, defined as titles with Arabic names or those built by MENA-based studios, consistently hold 12% to 22% of the iOS Top 50 in Saudi Arabia every quarter. On Google Play, that same category accounts for just 0% to 4% of the Top 50.
While Google Play’s top rankings remain heavily dominated by global hyper-casual releases and foreign mid-core titles, iOS users in Saudi Arabia actively seek out and support domestic content.
Local Titles Win Big at the Very Top
Arabic-language games do not simply sit in the lower ranks of the charts, they regularly dominate the highest positions. Across half of the 16 quarters analyzed, localized titles held a higher percentage share of the Top 10 than they did of the overall Top 50.
A clear example occurred in July 2024, when localized games captured 50% of the top ten spots on the iOS App Store. Five out of the ten most downloaded games in the country were Arabic-first releases.
When regional developers build for this audience, their games frequently reach the top rank rather than getting stuck in the long tail.
Success Is Sustained, Not a Temporary Spike
The presence of domestic hits is not limited to a few isolated viral spikes. The ecosystem shows healthy, continuous renewal over time.
- Steady expansion: Between July 2022 and April 2026, the cumulative number of localized games entering the iOS Top 50 grew from 8 to 27.
- Consistent freshness: An average of one to two new localized breakout hits entered the top charts almost every single quarter.
- Core studio anchors: A focused group of publishers, including Sawa Game, UMX Studio, Yalla Technology, Abdulrahman Alshimemeri, and Remal, consistently anchored the charts across the four-year study window.
This steady flow of new entrants alongside established regional players highlights a mature market with room for new releases.
Culturally Native Social Play Is the Winning Formula
The specific games sustaining high chart positions share a common thread: they center on culturally grounded multiplayer and social experiences.
Titles like TopTop KSA, Jawabak Jawabhum, Bara Al-Salfa, and Sawa Play have built long-term engagement by adapting traditional social interactions, trivia, and board formats into digital products. TopTop KSA reached the top spot in 2025 and has remained in the Top 15 ever since, while Bara Al-Salfa has maintained chart presence consistently since mid-2022.
These mechanics fit naturally into the daily routines of regional players, securing higher long-term retention than generic global mechanics.
Localization as a Competitive Advantage
Treating Arabic support as a simple post-launch translation pass misses the true dynamic of the Saudi market. On iOS in particular, designing natively around Arabic language nuances and local social habits creates a distinct competitive advantage. Building for regional player culture significantly improves a studio’s chances of breaking through chart noise and sustaining top-tier rankings.
