How to prevent Android to close Antidote unexpectedly

Some Android manufacturers prevent apps to work in background by default. This is a divergence from how standard Android works and might lead to Antidote for Android being closed during a playtest and losing your progress. 

To avoid this you can “whitelist” Antidote following the instructions below.

Select Your Manufacturer

Lock the app in Recent

  1. Open Recent apps.
  2. Find Your app.
  3. Long-press the icon of the app.


Battery optimization

To keep Antidote working properly make sure to switch off battery optimization  for Antidote:

  1. Go to Settings -> Apps
  2. Select Antidote
  3. Select Battery
  4. Select Optimize Battery Usage
  5. From the selector, switch from Apps not optimized to “All”
  6. Select Antidote
  7. Switch Off


Optimize battery usage

  1. Go to Settings -> Apps
  2. On top, click on (⁝) menu
  3. Tap Special Access
  4. Tap Optimize battery usage
  5. Expand list to “All”
  6. Select Antidote
  7. Switch Off


Auto-optimize daily + Adaptive power saving

  1. Option 1: on newer phones:
    1. Go to Settings -> Open Battery and device care
    2. Tap on (⁝) menu
    3. Choose Automation.
    4. Disable Auto optimize daily
    5. Disable Adaptive power saving
  2. Option 2: on older phones:
    1. Go to Settings -> Open Battery and device care
    2. Tap on (⁝) menu
    3. Tap on Advanced
    4. Disable Auto optimisation


Adaptive battery

  1. Go to Settings -> Open Battery and device care
  2. Scroll down and select “More battery settings”
  3. Disable Adaptive battery.


Lists of Sleeping apps

  1. Open Settings > Battery > Background usage limits
  2. Remove Antidote from any of the lists (Sleeping apps, Deep sleeping apps, never sleeping apps, etc)

App locking

Locking the app in the Recent app may avoid Antidote to be killed in background and the Battery optimisation setting to be reverted.

  1. Start Antidote.
  2. Go to Recent apps: swipe up and hold for opening recent apps (Apps switcher).
  3. Long press anywhere on the window and tap the Lock button on the upper right corner of the app.
  4. Antidote will have the closed padlock icon.


Battery Optimization

  1. Go to System Settings > Apps > Gear Icon > Special Access:
    1. Turn off Battery Optimization
  2. Go to System settings > Battery > Battery optimization
    1. Switch to ‘All apps’ in top right menu
    2. Tap on Antidote
    3. Switch off to Don’t optimize


App Auto-Launch

App Auto-Launch (on some OnePlus phones) essentially prevents apps from working in the background. Please disable it for your app.

  1. Go to Settings > Apps
  2. Locate Antidote
  3. Switch off App Auto-Launch for Antidote


Enhanced / Advanced Optimization

  • OnePlus 6 and above:
    • Go to System Settings > Battery > Battery optimization
    • On top, click on (⁝) menu
    • Advanced optimization.
    • Disable the option Deep optimization or Adaptive Battery
  • OnePlus below 6:
    • Go to System settings > Battery > Battery optimization
    • On top, click on (⁝) menu
    • Turn off Enhanced optimization
 

App Launch

On some EMUI 8, 9 and 10 devices (e.g Huawei P20, Huawei P20 Lite, Huawei Mate 10, Huawei Honor 9 Lite, Huawei Mate 9 Pro …)
  1. Go to Settings > Battery
  2. Tap App Launch or Launch
  3. Set it to Manage Manually (turn off Manage all automatically)
  4. Select Antidote
  5. And enable the following options:
    1. Enable Auto-launch
    2. Secondary launch
    3. Enable Run in background
 

Battery Optimization

  1. Option 1: EMUI 9 or above
    1. Go to System settings > Battery
    2. Select Battery optimization
    3. Switch to ‘All apps’ in top right menu
    4. Tap on Antidote
    5. Switch off to Don’t allow
  2. Option 2: EMUI 5.X and 8.X
    1. Go to System Settings
    2. Select one of the following:
      1. > Battery
      2. > Apps > Settings > Special Access
    3. Select Ignore Battery optimization
    4. Switch to ‘All apps’ in top right menu
    5. Tap on Antidote
    6. Select Allow


Power management

On EMUI 6+ and some EMU5 devices:

  1. Go to Settings > Advanced Settings > Battery manager
    1. Set Power plan to Performance
    2. Go to protected apps and set Antidote as Protected
  2. Go to Settings > Apps > Antidote > Battery:
    1. Power-intensive prompt and Keep running after screen off
  3. Go to Settings > Apps > Advanced (at the bottom) > Ignore Optimisations
    1. Tap Allowed
    2. Show all apps
    3. Tap on Antidote and set to Allow
    4. Switch Power Saving Modes to Off
    5. Choose the next options: Saving Power in The Background > Choose apps > select Antidote > Background Settings > No restrictions


Xiaomi’s Android customization is called MIUI and it’s one of the most troubled customizations of Android. To improve Antidote on a Xiaomi device follow theses steps:


App Pinning / Locking

  1. Open Antidote
  2. Open recent apps tray
  3. Based on your model:
    1. Option 1: drag Antidote downwards (it will be locked). 
    2. Option 2: long-press Antidote and then choose the padlock icon from the menu


Battery Optimizations

To let your app run in the background, make sure settings for your app look like the following:

MIUI 10, 11, 12 and above

  1. Go to Settings > Apps
  2. Select Antidote
  3. Enable AutoStart
  4. Tap on Battery Saver
    1. Select No Restrictions


Power management

  1. Go to Settings > Advanced Settings > Battery manager
    1. Set Power plan to Performance
    2. Add Antidote as Protected
  2. Go to Settings > Apps > Antidote > Battery:
    1. Power-intensive prompt and Keep running after screen off
  3. Go to Settings > Additional Settings > Battery & Performance > Manage apps’ battery usage and here:
    1. Switch Power Saving Modes to Off
    2. Choose the next options: Saving Power in The Background > Choose apps > select Antidote > Background Settings > No restrictions


App battery saver

  1. Go to Settings > Security > Battery > App Battery Saver
  2. Select Antidote
  3. Set to No restriction


MIUI Optimizations

MIUI Optimizations are not Android standard optimizations that might affect the performance of certain apps. It is reported to be present on MIUI 12 so far, but it is possible this option is present on older versions too.
 
To disable it, you need to:
  1. Enable Developer Settings:
    1. Go to Settings > About
    2. Tap 10 times on MIUI version
  2. A new Developer Options section will appear
  3. Go to Developer Options:
    1. Scroll Down
    2. Turn off MIUI optimization
